---tab Description---
Description
This DPF Delete Race Pipe is designed for 2004.5–2007 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 with the 5.9L diesel engine. It replaces the restrictive factory DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) system, improving exhaust flow, performance, and fuel efficiency. Available in 4” or 5” turbo-back configurations, this stainless steel system delivers a deeper exhaust tone, reduced EGTs, and better turbo whistle while eliminating costly DPF maintenance.
Specification
| Material | T-409 Stainless Steel, it is magnetic. |
| Thickness | 2mm |
| Inlet Diameter | 4''/5'' |
| Compatible | Fully compatible with factory-style V-band connection (04.5+ turbo elbow required for 5") |
Key Features
- Expect to see a significant increase in fuel mileage. If your DPF is plugged up your probably averaging about 13-14 mpg. More or less depending on the severity of the restriction. After deleting the DPF/CAT expect to get a combined mileage of 18-19 mpg.
- It removes the need to service the DPF at regular intervals (cleaning, replacement)
- A DPF delete will remove the possibility of a DPF failure which could cause expensive diesel repairs
- Due to less exhaust backpressure, the Dodge Ram Diesel Truck DPF delete increases exhaust flow and therefore increases the performance of your motor!
- Paired with an ECU remap, the DPF delete is proven to increase power and torque for all vehicles
User Experience & Performance Feedback
-
4” Turbo-Back: Balanced sound, moderate volume increase over stock, excellent for daily drivers and lightly modified builds.
-
5” Turbo-Back: Deeper tone, better turbo whistle, lower EGTs, ideal for towing, heavy-duty use, or enthusiasts who want a louder, more aggressive sound.
Installation
- Time/Tools: About 1 hour with basic hand tools; some cutting may be needed for shorter wheelbases
- Included: Clamps, hangers, and hardware (some factory parts may need reuse).
- Tuner Required: A DPF delete tuner for Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel is mandatory to avoid check engine lights (emission sensors must be disabled).

---tab Fitment---
- For 2004.5, 2005, 2006, 2007 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 5.9 Diesel.
Notes:
- 2004.5+ models have a 4” turbo elbow outlet, making 4” or 5” systems direct-fit.
- 2003–early 2004 models require an adapter (3.5” downpipe).
- 5” systems recommended for heavy-duty use or enhanced sound.
---tab Overview---
What is the DPF and is it worth doing a DPF Delete?
Most post-2007 diesel vehicles are fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) for emissions reasons, however there are a few disadvantages to this device; including constant maintenance and repairs. For owners to upgrade to a 4 inch or 5 inch turbo back exhaust system, bypassing the DPF entirely for off-road performance.
Because the DPF clogs up, it increases backpressure. Due to this pressure, the fuel flow is hugely disturbed and slowed down. Therefore, when you remove this filter, the fuel flows much easily and faster, increasing the overall fuel mileage.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between a 4 inch and a 5 inch turbo back exhaust for the 2006 Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A1: A 4" system offers a slightly tighter sound and better backpressure retention for lightly modified trucks. A 5" turbo back exhaust provides a deeper tone and better flow, especially for trucks with performance upgrades. Both are suitable for the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 with 5.9L diesel, but the choice depends on your sound preference and power goals.
Q2: Will a 5 inch turbo back exhaust fit my 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9 diesel?
A2: Yes, the 5" turbo back exhaust system is designed to fit 2004.5–2007 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 5.9L diesel trucks. However, proper turbo elbow and downpipe compatibility should be confirmed, especially for early 2004.5 models.
Q3: Does a 5 inch turbo back exhaust increase horsepower on a stock Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A3: On a stock Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel, gains are modest—typically 5–10 hp from reduced backpressure. When paired with a tuner or intake upgrades, a 5" system can support higher airflow demands and larger performance gains.
Q4: How loud is a 5 inch straight pipe exhaust compared to a 4 inch system on a Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A4: The 5” system delivers a deeper, more aggressive tone but is generally quieter inside the cab than a 4” system, which can sound raspier and louder, especially under acceleration or towing loads.
Q5: Is there any performance difference between a cat-back and turbo-back exhaust for a Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A5: Yes. A turbo-back exhaust replaces the full system from the turbocharger outlet, offering maximum flow gains. A cat-back only replaces the system behind the catalytic converter, which limits gains. For the 2004.5–2007 Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel, a turbo-back system provides superior performance.
Q6: Can I install a 5 inch turbo back exhaust on my Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel without a lift?
A6: Yes, installation can be done on the ground with basic hand tools, but using a lift or ramps makes the process faster and easier. Trucks with short beds or extended cabs may require trimming of the exhaust sections.
Q7: Is a DPF delete legal on my 2006 Dodge Ram with a Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A7: The 2006 Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel trucks were not equipped with a DPF from the factory. However, removing or modifying emissions components is not legal for on-road use in the U.S. Always check your local and state emissions laws before installation.
Q8: Will I need tuning for a 5 inch turbo back exhaust on a Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A8: While tuning is not mandatory for the Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel when upgrading to a turbo-back system, pairing it with a tuner can improve throttle response, fuel economy, and turbo spool time. It's highly recommended for optimal results.
Q9: Will a 5 inch turbo back exhaust affect towing with a Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A9: Yes, positively. The improved flow helps maintain lower EGTs while towing, reducing engine stress. However, a resonator or muffler is recommended to keep noise levels comfortable during long hauls.
Q10: Does this system support EGT probe installation for monitoring on 2006 Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel?
A10: Yes, many SPELAB 4"/5" turbo back exhaust kits for the Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel come with pre-drilled ports or tapped bungs for EGT sensors. Always confirm your kit includes this if you're monitoring EGTs for towing or tuning.
