Up-pipes and down-pipes – what do they do?
Up-pipe is a piping that connects the exhaust manifold with the turbo. Exhaust gases enter the turbo from the l5p up-pipe. Down-pipe is a piping that connects the turbo with the rest of the exhaust pipe. Exhaust gases leave the turbo from the down-pipe.

FAQ
Q1: What is the purpose of an L5P up pipe?
A1: The L5P up pipe is a crucial component in the exhaust system that connects the exhaust manifolds to the turbocharger. It helps direct high-temperature exhaust gases efficiently, improving turbo spool and overall engine performance.
Q2: How does this Duramax up pipe differ from the stock version?
A2: This Duramax up pipe is made from high-quality stainless steel, offering better durability, improved exhaust flow, and reinforced flex sections to reduce the risk of cracking compared to OEM pipes.
Q3: What options are available for this L5P up pipe?
A3: offers multiple configurations, including:
- Up pipe only
- Up pipe + downpipe
- Up pipe with EGR compatibility
- Up pipe + EGR + downpipe
Q4: Does this Duramax up pipe affect emissions compliance?
A4: This L5P up pipe is available in both EGR-compatible and EGR-modified versions. If emissions compliance is a concern, choose the EGR-compatible version that retains factory emissions controls.
Q5: How difficult is the installation of this L5P up pipe?
A5: The Duramax up pipe is designed for a bolt-on installation using factory-style mounting points. However, due to its location in the engine bay, installation may require specialized tools and mechanical experience.
Q6: Can this up pipe withstand extreme temperatures?
A6: Yes, the L5P up pipe is built with heat-resistant stainless steel and reinforced flex joints, allowing it to handle extreme exhaust temperatures without failure.
Q7: Will this Duramax up pipe increase horsepower?
A7: While this L5P up pipe primarily enhances reliability and exhaust flow, it can contribute to better turbo efficiency and throttle response, which may support mild horsepower gains, especially when paired with other performance upgrades.
Q8: Does this up pipe require additional modifications?
A8: No, this Duramax up pipe is a direct-fit replacement for stock up pipes and does not require modifications. However, pairing it with an upgraded downpipe or performance exhaust can further improve efficiency.
Q9: What maintenance is required after installing this L5P up pipe?
A9: After installation, it’s recommended to:
- Check for leaks after the first few drives.
- Ensure all clamps and bolts remain tight over time.
- Monitor EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) if using this pipe with performance modifications.
Q10: How does this up pipe benefit towing applications?
A10: This Duramax up pipe helps maintain consistent power delivery and prevents heat-related performance loss, making it a great upgrade for trucks used in heavy-duty towing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a delete tuner?
A delete tuner is a device that reprograms yourtruck's ECM (computer) to turn off emissionssystems like the DPF, EGR, and DEF, allowing yourtruck to run without those components
Can l use a delete tuner withoutphysically removing TheDPF/DEF/EGR parts?
You MUST remove your DPF(Diesel ParticulateFilter), as the filter will clog and stop all exhaust flowwhen shut off. You will no longer need DEF(DieselExhaust Fluid), and you may remove your DEF tankif you wish, or it can sit empty. The EGR may remainas is, but we recommend removing the physicalparts as well.
Is a Delete Tune bad for mytruck's engine?
Quite the opposite. In fact, many customers reportimproved engine life, smoother shifting, and betterfuel economy (typically 3-5 MPG gains) when usinga quality delete tuner.
What's the difference between adelete tuner and a delete tune?
The tuner is the hardware device. The tune is thesoftware file that gets uploaded to your truck's ECM.Your delete tuner includes a delete tune when youpurchase from us.
Do delete tuners void my warranty?
Yes. Any emissions-related modification, includingtuning, can void the manufacturer's warranty. Manycustomers wait until after their warranty expiresbefore deleting.
Do l need a mechanic to install thetuner? How long does installationtake?
Not necessarily. Many of our customers install their delete tuner themselves in under 30 minutes. We include easy-to-follow instructions, and our support team is available if you need help.
Will my truck pass inspection oremissions testing with a deletetuner?
No. Delete tuners disable emissions systems, so your truck will not pass emissions tests in areas where they're required. Some states have exemptions (e.g. heavy-duty or rural-use trucks).
Can l go back to stock afterinstalling a delete tuner?
Yes. However, in most cases you will have to have the ECM flashed at the dealership. If this is a concern, contact our team and we can explain further.
Is the delete tune VlN-locked?
Yes. All delete tunes are VIN specific and will only work on one truck. The tuner (hardware device), may be used on multiple vehicles for diagnostic or monitoring purposes where applicable.
What support do l get with my tuner?
We offer lifetime customer support, step-by-step install guides, and remote help from our tuning team. You're never left hanging, even after the sale.
